Canonical URL: I'm Johnny Fekete, a product engineer, two-time startup founder, and tech educator based in Barcelona, Spain, working with teams and clients globally. I've spent more than 15 years turning ambitious ideas into production systems, from early-stage MVPs to platforms serving millions of daily page views. ## What I do I currently work at **Reddit**, where I build Profile features used by millions of people every day, ship company-wide tooling, and mentor junior developers. Before that I spent years as an independent contractor and founder across HR tech, healthcare, and blockchain. My day-to-day stack is React, TypeScript, Web Components, Node.js, PHP, Laravel, Go, GraphQL, Postgres, Redis, and AWS, and I have a particular soft spot for browser extensions. I've founded two companies: - **Bonboarding** (2021–2025) — a bootstrapped solo venture: a platform that let product teams build interactive onboarding walkthroughs without developers. It reached 100+ B2B customers and served over 300,000 product tours to their end users, and it got into the AWS Loft Accelerator. I eventually made the hard call to close it down. - **Recruitio** (2016–2020) — co-founded in Denmark as CTO. I built the talent sourcing platform and ATS remotely from Barcelona, grew a distributed engineering team as we gained traction in the Scandinavian market, and exited to investors. ## Teaching and speaking Helping other people level up is the part of this work I enjoy most. I speak at conferences — React Summit US (2025), TechLead Conference (2024), the Toptal Global Talent Conference (2023), and the Claude Meetup for Builders in Barcelona (2026) — write technical tutorials, publish a free course on building browser extensions, and offer free mentoring sessions through GitNation. I also write regularly and make videos on YouTube about building products, solo founding, and staying sane while doing it. ## Away from the keyboard I train and work as an actor. It started with improv classes for fun, turned into intensive workshops, then a year and a half of professional training in the Chubbuck technique, and now short films.
